Nivedita ShivRaj, led RagaChitra Ensemble to present Thirukural-Timeless Wisdom in a concert.
Nivedita ShivRaj has composed music to Thirukural, a precious collection of time-immemorial poetical couplets of 2nd century, which is essentially the code of ethics for a righteous life, relevant even today for the modern 21st century.
Nivedita ShivRaj is the first carnatic musician to compose music for Thirukural. The music is based on carnatic ragas, the south Indian musical scales. Nivedita ShivRaj received the Individual Artist grant for 2016 from the Queens Council on the Arts for composing music for Thirukural.

Nivedita ShivRaj, FCCA composer in residence, will perform instrumental music from South India blended with western music. The ancient string instrument, Veena, explores the complex ragas, the basis of Indian classical music, while providing a one of-a-kind East-West experience.
Nivedita ShivRaj will present her own compositions on the Veena with Jazz Guitarist Jason Goldstein on the guitar and vocalist Samyuktha ShivRaj on the vocals,.
They will be accompanied by Tripp Dudley & Shenthuraan Tharmarajah on percussion.

Summer solstice was celebrated in New York by musicians presenting free concerts in public spaces all over the five boroughs of New York City.
RagaChitra returned to MMNY this year with a Veena Ensemble in the Mass Appeal segment. Nivedita ShivRaj conducted and led a Veena ensemble of 7 to 8 veena players performing classical carnatic compositions and contemporary compositions.
Veena, the ancient multi-stringed instrument is majestic, and the music of Veena is graceful, melodious and mesmerising. The Veena Ensemble creates a web of intrigue and captivates the listener transporting them to a world of mythical beauty.

60×60 Dance @ WFC Winter Garden
60×60 Dance has 60 dances performed by more than 60 choreographers and dancers to the music of the 60×60 2008 International Mix. “Rain Dance” a composition of Nivedita ShivRaj was performed at the event.
Nivedita ShivRaj’s composition “Rain Dance” was part of the 60 x 60 Dance. Nivedita ShivRaj is the only carnatic musician to be chosen for the 60 x 60 project.

The word “Ranjani” in Sanskrit means something that is pleasant, enjoyable and attractive.
Nivedita ShivRaj presented a carnatic vocal concert with raga demonstration on various Ranjani ragas and taking us into the realms of the divine Ranjani ragas. Nivedita ShivRaj gave an insight into Ranjani Ragas, their features, history and some interesting snippets on Ranajani ragas.
Nivedita was supported on the vocal by Janani Kannan and Samyuktha ShivRaj.
Sridhar Subramaniam accompanied the trio on the Mridangam. Sridhar Subramanian. Sridhar Subramanian has been trained in Mridangam by his father Shri T.R. Subramani Iyer. He began learning Mridangam at the age of 10. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards from Srikrishna Gana Sabha and Indian Fine Arts, Chennai. Participated in many concerts in India and USA. Sridhar has been pursuing a dual career at New Jersey as a Software consultant and Mridangist.
